Mobile development

Mobile development is actively evolving in various ways. Let’s consider some major trends in 2025.

Artificial Intelligence

Since the release of ChatGPT in the autumn of 2022 and the emergence of its analogues from other companies, we are experiencing a real boom in various LLMs. The area of their application is rather wide: chat assistants, analyzer assistants, content generators, etc.

In the spring of 2024, Google introduced AI assistants integrated both into Android OS itself and into Android Studio development tools, as well as SDK for AI assistants connection with custom applications. Around the same time, Apple announced its AI assistant based on OpenAI models. Due to various limitations, such solutions are not available to all users, which makes the development of analogues extremely important. It will also be relevant to create and train custom AI assistants based on open LLMs (e.g., well-known and popular Meta-LLama) — the task that is currently being implemented by major companies.

Cross-Platform Development

It is no secret that Google, which develops Flutter, openly turned to Kotlin Multiplatform in 2024, having declared compatibility with that technology one of its key priorities. In 2024, they were actively involved in transferring Jetpack libraries to the cross-platform for modern Android application development. Flutter is also not losing ground and is increasingly gaining popularity in many companies. This solution is perfect for accelerated client applications development.

Super Applications

Super applications combine many features, services, and capabilities. The examples are chats, payment services, taxi services, food ordering services, etc. Users increasingly value versatility and no need to install multiple applications. That’s why the development of such applications will continue to gain popularity in the future.
Many large companies are already investing not only in the development of its main service and access resources, but also in super applications. This also requires the development and elaboration of implementation approaches, the creation of an architectural solution, and the increase in productivity.

Security and Confidentiality

Technology changes, appears and disappears, but user data security and confidentiality are always of great importance. Today this area is as relevant as ever. Any applications should be secure. Every year, technology developers present new solutions for implementing such functionality and integration. Rules for access to information are ever-changing and becoming even stricter.

Server Driven UI Technology (SDUI)

Server Driven UI technology, where the contents and the appearance of application screens are determined on the backend side and transmitted in the form of JSON, while the mobile client application converts the data, creates the screen and displays it, will still remain popular. It is the way both to improve development and to provide new features and screens with no re-releases of applications, or with explicit decrease in re-releases. More and more companies develop their own SDUI constructors, elaborate their own approaches. SDUI also works fine with declarative development frameworks, Jetpack Compose, SwiftUI, which have been firmly integrated into the main pool.

It is not so easy to give a summary of everything, so instead of digging into details I would like to highlight some top trends that would be of interest for general

audience. It would be quite reasonable to assume that in 2025 Python will only be getting stronger.

Python Popularity

According to Stack Overflow survey, Python remains one of the most popular language for various tasks: web development, data analysis, artificial intelligence, and much more. It is highly probable, that in 2025 Python will further boost its position due to increase in performance, although it is not the only thing worth mentioning. For example, one of the significant events was the experimental addition of JIT compilation to Python 3.13, and Python developers noted, that “Performance improvements are modest — we expect to improve this over the next few releases.”

Web Development

Python remains in demand in web development, but it is not a new trend, but rather a continuation of an already established movement. Such frameworks as Django and FastAPI are further improving, making the development process more productive and convenient.

Artificial Intelligence

Finally, AI can not be left unmentioned. Python will continue to play a prominent role in this area, which is perfectly reflected by an open source world. For example, during 2024 GitHub Trending for Python showed an increase in popularity and number of AI-related projects. It is clear that in 2025 this trend will not fade away, given the global interest in the subject.

n 2024, we, like our colleagues, introduced conventional AI and tried some generative AI as well.

It is worth mentioning that 2024 was marked by the introduction of AI into all aspects of our lives. We believe that in 2025 AI popularity will decrease, and AI will remain only where it is really needed. I do hope that companies producing substantial products will stop downgrading them to the level of startups by introducing raw generative AI solutions.

As for the trends, they are as follows:

Further AI agents development and introduction

Companies use AI agents to streamline operations, improve customer experience, and relieve human teams for strategic work. Their ability to process data, make decisions, and learn as quickly as possible transforms the way organizations approach efficiency and innovation.

AI-based security products

Generative AI is already changing the cybersecurity landscape, both for defenders and intruders. Hackers employ generative AI to create complex phishing schemes and automate vulnerabilities at scale, pushing security teams to innovate just as fast. As a result, we expect a rise in AI-based security products designed to eliminate these threats.

Measures against fakes generated with generative AI

This problem becomes more and more acute, since not only photos/videos, but also texts are created. As a result, there is a risk to read some fake news or fake messages that could be used by scammers.

Also, in 2025 we expect a breakthrough not only in the development of neuromorphic chips, but also in their implementation.

Open Source Databases

In 2025, open source databases will continue to evolve, introducing new data management features. The major growth is expected in such areas as:

AI & Machine Learning

Such databases as PostgreSQL, MySQL and MongoDB, will include built-in artificial intelligence and ML features or simple integrations to streamline data analysis. For example, PostgreSQL already has extensions such as PL/Python for embedding artificial intelligence algorithms, which may be improved in future updates.

MySQL and MongoDB enhance analytical capabilities, making it possible to process huge data sets in real time, which is useful for AI-based applications. This trend is consistent with the growing employment of databases in predictive analytics and decision-making.

Extended analytical capabilities in databases (real-time)

Open source databases will support real-time analytics, including in-memory data storage, automated machine learning, and OLTP and OLAP support. MySQL HeatWave already offers these capabilities, simplifying complex queries and real-time analytics without ETL duplication. We expect such innovations to be developed in other open source databases as well.

Serverless databases models

Serverless models with automatic scalability allow companies to reduce costs and increase system flexibility. MongoDB Atlas has already implemented this model, offering a serverless option for creating databases without directly managing the infrastructure itself. We believe that similar services will also be implemented in other databases (through cloud providers).

System Analysis

In 2025, system and business analysis will be actively adapting to new architecture approaches, such as Event-Driven architectures. These solutions become increasingly popular in highly loaded systems that require rapid data processing and analysis. It will be important for analysts to gain a deeper understanding of such concepts as event sourcing and CQRS in order to develop requirements capable to account for events distribution and complex event processing scenarios.

The role of analysts will increasingly shift toward a product-based approach. Instead of short-term project work, they will be involved in long-term product development, connecting technical teams and business. Thus, analysts will have to gain a deeper understanding of companies strategic goals, as well as skills in market analysis, metrics handling, and product life cycle management.

One of the tools that will be highly-demanded by analysts is Value Stream Mapping (VSM). Such approach allows the company to deeper understand value chains, identify bottlenecks and suggest improvements. Analysts proficient in VSM techniques will become key participants in transformation projects aimed to increase process efficiency and improve business results.
